P.A.T Testing
Portable Appliance Testing is an important part of any company health & safety policy.
Statuary work place regulations place a the responsibility on employers to comply with the provisions of the regulations and take reasonably practicable steps to ensure that no danger results from the use portable electrical appliances.
The implementation of a systematic and regular programme of testing is therefore a requirement of the The Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) to be folloed when :
This in effect requires the implementation of a systematic and regular program of maintenance, inspection and testing. The Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) places such an obligation in the following circumstances:
- employees use electrical appliances.
- Visitors may use any electrical appliance
- If appliances are supplied or hired.
- When appliances are repaired or serviced.
The type of inspection and testing required is based upon the risk of the appliance becoming faulty, which is in turn is based on the use of the appliance and the environment where used.
Following testing an identification label must be visible showing 'Passed' , 'Tested For Electrical Safety' or 'DO NOT USE '.
